Grand Hotels Media: Since joined Hyatt in 1994, you have accumulated more than 20 years’ experience in the hospitality industry. What attracts you the most about this brand? From your perspective, what’s its unique feature in comparison with other high-end hotel brands?
Mr. Hin Yoong Au Yong: As a leading global hospitality company, Hyatt is in the business of caring for people so they can be their best. This is also what the Hyatt spirit lies in and attracts me the most. Our culture is one that empowers every individual to be his or her best, and such authentic connection inspires the way we care for each other and for our guests. Everyone in Hyatt shares the same values, beliefs in respect, integrity, humility, empathy, creativity and fun. Only when our employees feel at ease presenting themselves as they are, they can achieve their best by devoting wholeheartedly and fulfilling duties at any time.
Grand Hotels Media: Currently, a number of high-end hotel brands have settled in Shanghai. The competition in the industry is increasingly fierce. Compared with other premium hotels, what does Hyatt Regency Shanghai Global Harbor’s strength lie in? What’s the strategic meaning of the hotel to settle in Global Harbor Shanghai?
Mr. Hin Yoong Au Yong: As the first Hyatt hotel in Putuo District and the seventh one in Shanghai, Hyatt Regency Shanghai Global Harbor enjoys a superior geographical location in Global Harbor Shanghai and is within a 30 minutes’ drive to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and National Exhibition & Convention Center. Directly beneath the hotel, metro lines 3, 4 and 13 connect to the entire city subway network, where guests can easily reach city attractions including Changfeng Ocean World, Shanghai Zoo, Zhongshan Park and Jing’an Temple. As Global Harbor Shanghai boasts a total of 49 floors with a huge flow of people and capital, it is one of the largest landmark complexes for shopping and leisure in the city. Grand Hotels Media: From F&B director to general manager, you must have an insightful understanding towards delicacy. What do you expect from the catering department in Hyatt Regency Shanghai Global Harbor? Have you considered combining the local customs with the hotel’s speciality?
Mr. Hin Yoong Au Yong: Hyatt Regency Shanghai Global Harbor offers four distinctive restaurants and lounges to suit every taste and occasion. Discover the delights of Jiangnan cuisine at Xiang Yue Chinese Restaurant on the 45thfloor, where fresh seasonal ingredients inspire each dish. Market Café on the 7th floor is like the gourmet marketplace, presenting creative flavors from our open kitchen. Capture the essence of Shanghai’s nightlife with dazzling 47th-floor views at the Bar, where fine wines, handcrafted cocktails and DJ tunes are available. The residential-style Lobby Lounge, offering plush armchairs, dining tables and business facilities, is a perfect spot to unwind between meetings, catch up on work or chat with friends. After work, I’m also fond of riding bicycles with my wife and daughter to explore surrounding alleys, taste various dishes and experience local cultures. Hopefully one day, the hotel’s Food and Beverage can be perfectly combined with local customs, providing unforgettable dining experience for guests.
Grand Hotels Media: Graduated from Stamford College with a degree in hotel management, you have learned to meet practical needs by holding various management positions in Hyatt Hotels at home and abroad. Could you share with us your distinctive views about hotel management?
Mr. Hin Yoong Au Yong: Hyatt Regency successfully distinguishes itself within the competitive hospitality marketplace. In Hyatt Regency Shanghai Global Harbor, guests can find a full range of services and amenities, including well-designed guest rooms, notable restaurants and bars, state-of-the-art fitness facilities, a modern and chic atmosphere, efficient and professional services all under one roof. From beginning to end, we are dedicated to meeting guests’ needs and making sure that our considerable services go beyond their expectation. Since joined Hyatt Regency Saujana in Malaysia in 1994, I have worked for Hyatt for more than 20 years. The Hyatt spirit has already deeply rooted in my heart. I feel so much honored to be appointed as General Manager of Hyatt Regency Shanghai Global Harbor. My management method can be simply included in six words of Hyatt culture, which are respect, integrity, humility, empathy, creativity and fun.
Grand Hotels Media: Nowadays, an increasing number of hotels are just not satisfied with the rooms booked and event sales anymore. The competition of the industry is inclined to be diversified. Could you tell us the positioning and future direction of Hyatt Regency Shanghai Global Harbor?
Mr. Hin Yoong Au Yong: As a newly opened hotel, Hyatt Regency Shanghai Global Harbor strives to do the best. The hotel has 2,600sqm meeting and event venues, providing an ideal spot for communication, gathering and meetings of various sizes. The 900sqm pillar-free Regency Ballroom with 6.8-meter ceilings can be fully integrated with the foyer to create a spectacular 1,000sqm venue for up to 1,700 guests. Six multi-functional Salons are located on the 8th floors, sized between 50-120sqm. Salons Three to Five can be combined to form a 240sqm venue hosting up to 200 guests. In addition, the hotel’s guestrooms and suites, range from 38 to 240sqm and featuring hardwood floors, art deco design inspirations and floor-to-ceiling views of the city, makes the perfect home away from home for guests in Shanghai. A full range of modern conveniences can also be enjoyed including complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and broadband Internet, 65-inch flat screen TV with cable and satellite TV channels as well as Bose sound link.
